Review – Silver Linings Playbook (2012) – dir. David O. Russell

This years Film Independent Forum 2012 (FIND Forum) opened with David O. Russell’s quirky love story, ” Silver Linings Playbook “. The film stars Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Wedding Crashers, A-team) and Jennifer Lawrence (X-men, and the Hunger Games). Cooper is a recently released patient from a mental facility where he was serving a 10 month stay on a plea bargain for assaulting a colleague after catching he and his wife engaged in scandal. Determined to win her back he enlists the help of his best friend’s wife’s sister, played by Lawrence. She agrees help out in order to get closer to Cooper. Both stars play semi unbalanced characters very convincingly and the direction is top notch. Robert De Niro and Chris Tucker both play supporting roles adding a nice comedic touch. I can honestly say: I’m not really into romantic comedies, but if you see one this holiday season; make it Silver Linings Playbook. It’s scheduled to be released November 21st 2012.
